If you find yourself in trouble with the police,
it is essential that you contact a Solicitor as soon as possible.
If you are arrested or charged with an offence it is unlikely
that you will be familiar with the complex legal system. McKinnon
Hewitt is able to help you at times such as these.
If you are arrested, you will normally be taken to the local Police
Station where you will be questioned and charged. Most people,
if they are charged, will be released by the police and will eventually
receive a notice to appear at Court at a later date. If that is
the case you would appear in the District or Sheriff Court when
a Complaint or Petition would be served upon you.
After you have been charged with an offence, and if you are to
be kept in custody, the Police must ask you if you would like
them to contact a Solicitor on your behalf. If you wish McKinnon
Hewitt to act on your behalf then you can provide the
Police with the name of either Frances
Hewitt or Kathleen Murray.
As Frances and Kathleen appear on the Duty rota, all Local Police
Stations will have their contact telephone numbers.
Both Frances Hewitt and Kathleen
Murray will be able to advise you of your eligibility
for Scottish Legal Aid.
The criminal Legal system is complex and for those not legally
qualified can be very difficult to understand. That is why it
is important you contact McKinnon Hewitt
as soon as possible. Both Frances Hewitt
and Kathleen Murray are there
to give advice, guidance and support in these instances.
If you have any queries regarding the foregoing please contact
Frances Hewitt or Kathleen
Murray for further information.
